Mars Observer and Mars Global Surveyor Operations Plans Collection, 1985-1998.

The collection includes 16 boxes. The documents in this collection cover the Mars Observer and Mars Global Surveyor Projects from 1985-1998. Boxes 1 through 7 are Mars Observer Project materials generated by Glenn Cunningham. The documents consist of project level review packages, periodic status reports; NASA quarterly review presentations packages, and program operating plan-various versions. (Boxes 1 through 3). Boxes 4 through 7 contain volume I NASA failure reports, spacecraft technical proposal (RCA), project plans and spacecraft performance specifications. Boxes 8 through 16 are Mars Global Surveyor material generated by Glenn Cunningham. The documents consist of MGS solar array anomaly flight logs, October 1997 to November 1997, "Face on Mars" issues, and background content, and "Face on Mars" correspondence with the public; (Boxes 8 through 10). Boxes 11 through 13 contain Mars Global Surveyor Operations Project documents. These documents consist of phase B study, MGS gyro 2 anomaly, management approach study, solar array yoke failure files, aerobraking readiness review, design and margin files. Boxes 14 through 16 contain Mars Global Surveyor managers documents that consists of project/program authorization documents, review planning and actions items for various project level reviews, Mars Surveyor Operations Project (MSOP) Core capabilities review, establishment of the MGS operations projects files, reengineering of the MGS Mission Operation System (MOS) files, MGS risk assessment files and the MGS fixed high gain antenna (HGA) study files.
